Zora Neale Hurston
Zora Neale Hurston was a prominent African American author, anthropologist, and folklorist, best known for her contributions to the Harlem Renaissance. She is most famous for her novel "Their Eyes Were Watching God" (1937), which explores themes of race, gender, and identity in the life of an African American woman in the early 20th century. Hurston also collected and published folklore from the African American South and the Caribbean, showcasing the richness of Black cultural traditions. Despite facing financial difficulties and obscurity later in life, her work was rediscovered in the 1970s, cementing her legacy as a key figure in American literature.
