J. Edgar (John Edgar) Hoover
John Edgar Hoover was the first Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and served from 1924 until his death in 1972. Though known primarily for his role in law enforcement, Hoover also authored several works, including "Masters of Deceit," which focused on the dangers of communism in America. His leadership of the FBI was marked by controversial practices, such as surveillance and intelligence gathering on political figures and civil rights activists. Hoover's legacy remains divisive, with some viewing him as a pioneer of modern law enforcement and others criticizing his overreach and abuse of power.
