George H. (George Henry) Calvert
George Henry Calvert (1803–1889) was an American editor, essayist, poet, and biographer, known for his contributions to 19th-century American literature. He was a descendant of the prominent Calvert family, founders of the Maryland colony, and he often drew upon his heritage in his writings. Calvert authored numerous works, including biographies like "Arnold and André" and essays such as "The Gentleman" that explored literary and philosophical themes. Additionally, he was an advocate of German literature in America, translating and promoting the works of Goethe and Schiller.
