Charles Neufeld
John Charles Neufeld, also known as Karl Neufeld, was a British author and explorer born in 1856. He is best known for his book "A Prisoner of the Khalifa," which details his experiences of being held captive in Sudan for over twelve years. Neufeld worked as a merchant and later as a government agent in Egypt, where he was captured by Mahdist forces in 1887. His writings provide a detailed account of his harrowing imprisonment and offer insight into the Mahdist regime and Sudanese history during the late 19th century.
