Bertha Runkle was an American author known for her historical novel "The Helmet of Navarre," published in 1901. This debut novel, set in 16th-century France, became a bestseller and was serialized in "The Century Magazine". Runkle's success with "The Helmet of Navarre" made her one of the youngest best-selling authors of her time. Although she wrote a few other novels, none achieved the same acclaim as her first.
