Description:

Śrī Śrī Caṇḍī is a revered text among Śāktas, who follow Śaktism — a branch of Hinduism. It is read during the worship of Goddess Durgā and is especially popular in Eastern India, particularly in Bengal — a Śākta stronghold. Śrī Śrī Caṇḍī, also known as Devī Māhātmya or Durgā Saptaśatī, is an excerpt from the Mārkanḍeya Purāṇa, which is one of the 18 Mahāpurāṇas. The Mārkanḍeya Purāṇa is the shortest of these texts and consists of 137 chapters, with Śrī Śrī Caṇḍī, comprising chapters 81 to 93. This scripture is filled with stories that showcase the power and benevolence of the divine feminine. The Mārkaṇḍeya Purāṇa has been translated by Frederick Eden Pargiter in 1904, and this edition's text comes from his translation. IAST or International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration scheme is used in this book. Footnotes have been omitted for the sake of simplicity and ease of reading.
