Wolfram Eberhard
Wolfram Eberhard (1909–1989) was a German-born sinologist and sociologist known for his extensive research on Chinese history, culture, and folklore. He authored numerous works, including "A History of China" and "Dictionary of Chinese Symbols," which remain influential in the field of Chinese studies. Eberhard's research focused on Chinese popular traditions, myths, and religions, contributing significantly to the understanding of East Asian cultures. He also held academic positions in Germany and the United States, including a long tenure at the University of California, Berkeley.
