Thomas Hughes
Thomas Hughes (1822–1896) was an English lawyer, judge, and author best known for his novel "Tom Brown's School Days" (1857). The book, which is a semi-autobiographical work based on his experiences at Rugby School, became a classic of English literature and greatly influenced the genre of school novels. Hughes was also a social reformer, supporting workers' rights and establishing a utopian community called Rugby, Tennessee. In addition to his writing, he served as a Member of Parliament and was an advocate for Christian socialism.
