Susan Glaspell
Susan Glaspell (1876-1948) was an influential American playwright, novelist, and journalist, often considered a pioneer of modern feminist literature. She co-founded the Provincetown Players, a key organization in the development of American drama, alongside her husband George Cram Cook. Glaspell is best known for her play "Trifles" (1916) and the short story "A Jury of Her Peers" (1917), both of which explore themes of gender and justice. Her work has been celebrated for its incisive critique of societal norms and its nuanced portrayal of women's experiences.

"ONE OF THOSE IMPOSSIBLE AMERICANS" "N'avez-vous pas—" she was bravely demanding of the clerk when she saw that the bulky American who was standing there helplessly dangling two flaming red silk stockings which a copiously coiffured young woman assured him were bien chic was edging nearer her. She was never so conscious of the truly American quality of her French as when a...

It was hard to get back into the easy current of everyday talk. Cora Albright's question had too rudely pulled them out of it, disturbing the quiet flow of inconsequential things. Even when they had recovered and were safely flowing along on the fact that the new hotel was to cost two hundred thousand dollars, after they had moved with apparent serenity to lamentation over a neighbor who was sick...
