Karl Friedrich May (1842–1912) was a prolific German writer best known for his adventure novels set in the American Old West and the Orient. His most famous works include "Winnetou" and "The Treasure of Silver Lake," which feature Native American and cowboy protagonists. Although May never visited the regions he wrote about, his vivid imagination and extensive research created captivating tales that gained widespread popularity, especially in Europe. Karl May, born in 1842 under the name Carl Friedrich May, published the first volume of his autobiography in November of 1910.
