Joshua Slocum
Joshua Slocum was a Canadian-American seaman and writer, best known for being the first person to sail solo around the world. His famous book "Sailing Alone Around the World" (1900) recounts this incredible voyage aboard his sloop, "Spray", between 1895 and 1898. Slocum was an experienced mariner and had previously commanded large merchant ships before embarking on his solo journey. His adventures and writing have inspired generations of sailors and adventurers, making him a pioneering figure in maritime history.
