Francis Lister Hawks (1798–1866) was an American clergyman, historian, and author known for his contributions to both religious and historical literature. He wrote several works, including "History of North Carolina," which is notable for its detailed account of the state's early history. Hawks also authored religious texts, such as "Narrative of the Expedition of an American Squadron to the China Seas and Japan," which documented Commodore Perry's mission. Despite his literary and religious contributions, his reputation was marred by personal scandals, including accusations of financial mismanagement.
