Edward J. Dent (1876–1957) was a British musicologist, critic, and writer known for his contributions to opera history and music theory. He was a key figure in promoting contemporary music in the early 20th century and wrote extensively on various composers and operatic traditions. His notable works include "Mozart's Operas," a comprehensive study of Mozart's operatic compositions, and "The Rise of Romantic Opera," which explores the development of opera during the Romantic period. Dent was also a founding member and president of the International Society for Contemporary Music, significantly influencing music appreciation and scholarship.
