Clements R. (Clements Robert) Markham
Clements Robert Markham (1830–1916) was a British geographer, explorer, and writer, known for his contributions to the exploration of the Arctic and his work in historical research. He played a key role in organizing and promoting British Antarctic expeditions, including those led by Robert Falcon Scott. Markham wrote extensively on geography, exploration, and history, with notable works like "The Voyages of William Baffin" and "A Life of the Great Lord Fairfax." He also served as President of the Royal Geographical Society and was instrumental in promoting the introduction of quinine-producing cinchona trees to India.
