On Saturday, May 1st, the Tennessee Centennial Exposition was formally opened. The object of this Exposition is to celebrate the anniversary of the admission of the State of Tennessee into the Union, one hundred years ago. The Grant parade is over, the monument given to and accepted by the City of New York, and the great day has come and gone as such days will, leaving behind it tired eyes and a confused memory of marching soldiers. The peace negotiations are settled; that is to say, the plans suggested by Lord Salisbury, and agreed to by the Powers, have also been accepted by the Sultan. The situation in Cuba remains much the same. The noteworthy event of the past week has been a sad and unfortunate shipwreck which occurred on October 16th.
